lohri is a famous festival of Punjabi. it is celebrated in north India especially in the states of Punjab. haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu. it is celebrated on the 13th day of January which falls in the month of pause of Magh according to Hindu calendar. in addition to that people also wear new clothes n this day and perform bhangra which is a folk dance of Panjabi. it is believed that the festival is celebrated the day when days start becoming shorter and the night starts becoming longer. even a few days before Lohri, small boys and girls are seen moving about in small groups from door to door asking for Lohri gifts in the form of money, during cakes and firewood.



the main theme of Lohri is the belief that hohri is the cultural celebration of the winter solstice. on this festival, people gather around the bonfire, throw sweets, puffed rice and popcorn in the flames, sing a popular song and exchange greeting. the Prashad comprises of six main things, til, gazak, gud, moongphali, phuliya and popcorn. people of India celebrate Lohri with lots of happiness and joy like many other festivals. it is one o those festivals which give an opportunity to family and friends to gather together and spend together some quality time.
